Gail Astbury

I have been pursuing my career as an artist and teacher for seven years. During this time I have developed two sides to my work.

The first is as a public artist, accepting commissions and facilitating large group art projects.

The other is as a studio-based artist, developing my own personal form of artistic expression.

My public art involves creating suitable designs, working collaboratively, teaching, and liaising with councils and other organizations in order to enhance existing environments.

I have developed skills in producing large scale public sited works, for example dealing with suppliers, selecting relevant materials, being aware of health and safety issues and organizing and motivating large numbers of people.

For the last year I have been artist-in-residence at Charles Dickens Primary School. This involves using my artistic abilities in order to stimulate the children visually. Giving them the chance to realize their own visual ideas in and around the school, with my supervision.

Sample Works:

London Fields Pool Mural
Rubberized Paint on Stone Tiles for Hackney Council

South Acton Graffiti Project
Aerosol Paint on Brick for ACAVA (Association for Cultural Advancement through Visual Art)
Working with young graffiti

Human-Scale Chess Piece Project
Papier Mache and Acrylic Paint on Canes and Withies for Charles Dickens Primary School, London Bridge
Working as artist-in-residence to produce large scale art works with the children
