| I have been photographing landscape since
the early 1980's but in the last few years have concentrated on water in the landscape:
not the water seen in the wide-angle shots of landscape photography, but close-up studies
of small areas of water in urban areas. The pictures show objects, in or under the water, or simply reflected on the water's surface. They explore the capacity of water to be both reflective and transparent. Light and shadow create layers, and what is real, what is shadow, what is reflection, becomes confused. The images echo the words of the Victorian photographer P.H.Emerson - "Nature is full of pictures, and they are found in what appears to the uninitiated the most unlikely places."
